Siphon Draw Flat Iron Hike
Siphon Draw Flat Iron Hike
Beginning Fall 2026!
The Flat Iron hike via the Siphon Draw trail is one the Valley's most difficult day hikes. It begins in Lost Dutchman State Park and quickly climbs up to a large natural monument shaped like an iron (hence the name).
The hike offers exceptional views, gorgeous rock formations, and (if you're lucky) a small waterfall near the start. We've also seen mountain sheep along the way.
However, it's also very challenging and includes over 1700' of steep ascent and descent.
The trail is also rugged and requires a significant amount of scrambling. You may be surprised to find that your arms are just as sore as your legs by the end of it.
Despite being a popular hike, the trail is poorly marked. There are very few blazes, and we've even found arrows spray painted into the rocks pointing in the wrong direction. The general advice is "stay left," but there are several exceptions along the way.
That's where we come in! We've hiked this trail plenty of times. We'll help you reach the Flat Iron safely without getting lost. Our hikes usually take 4-8 hours depending on the fitness level of each participant.
Please note: This is a dangerous hike. These guidelines MUST be followed before booking:
- DO NOT sign up for this hike if you are not accustomed to significant elevation gain.
- Ensure you have strong upper and lower body strength. This hike includes lots of scrambling.
- Lost Dutchman State Park rangers recommend bringing a gallon of water for the hike. As professional hikers who scale the trail regularly, we agree.
- Rattlesnakes live in the area. We recommend bringing gaiters.
